Steven Wayne McLaws

Brennon and I are proud to introduce our new son, Steven Wayne McLaws! We are so blessed and can't get over the fact that we are parents! Ah! He is an amazing baby and we are so happy we were chosen to be his parents. Baby Stevie came into the world at 11:06 pm on Friday, January 8, 2010. He shares his birthday with his Grandpa Steve (my dad), so I guess you could say Grandpa is on cloud 9!

Friday morning Brennon and I got our things together and headed over to the hospital to be induced. When we got there they gave me a pill that was supposed to soften my cervix and get things moving along. After the pill we just waited around for labor. We strolled the hospital halls hoping to go into labor, but no such luck. We had a lot of visitors before the baby came so we played games and watched TV and just chatted. About 2:30 ish the doctor came in to break my water and after that things starting moving along very quickly. I wasn't feeling any contraction pains before he broke my water, but afterward things got VERY painful, VERY fast! I asked for an epidural at 3:00, but the anesthesiologist was in surgery so I had to wait until 4:30 to get it! Good thing I had lots of hands to hold, contractions are no walk in the park! Finally around 9:00 pm I was dilated all the way and was ready to push! Right up until that moment I was calm, but once everyone cleared the room and I was about to have a baby, I realized I WAS ABOUT TO HAVE A BABY!! So many emotions, excitement, nervous, scared, pain (my epidural was wearing off), a little bit of panic... Once the doctor was all ready I started pushing with every contraction and it took what seemed like forever to get him out! I pushed for about 2 hours and finally we got out the vacuum thing and sucked him out! Thank God for that, otherwise I probably would have been pushing for another hour. Once he came out it was instant relief. No more pain. He was so precious. He came out and just looked around. He moaned and groaned a little. I got to hold him while Brennon cut the cord, then they took him to take his tests and get his first bath.

Brennon and my mom were in the delivery room with me and they were both so wonderful! Brennon was so encouraging and kept telling me what a great job I was doing and mom kept telling me I was doing great too! They both held my legs and did a good job not laughing at me while I screamed like a banshee. I had plans on going in there and just holding my breath when I pushed and not making any noise... Yeah, that didn't happen, I was screaming my head off! Wrangler probably could have heard me from home! Oh well, I was in the moment :)

Stevie arrived at 11:06 pm and weighed 6 pounds 4 ounces and was 18.5 inches. He's just a little guy and oh so cute! Grandpa Steve, Papa Ivan and Nana Denise all waited in the waiting room patiently. Well, except for dad, he was probably getting a little antsy. He was hoping to have the baby on his birthday and midnight was just around the corner, but we made it with 54 minutes to spare!

We are so happy he's here and can't imagine life without him!
